'42' Official Trailer: The Real Life Story of Jackie Robinson

Can't wait for this to come out next year. (April 13th)

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are teaming up with director Brian Helgeland for "42," the powerful story of Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke Major League Baseball's color barrier when he joined the roster of the Brooklyn Dodgers. "42" will star Academy Award(R) nominee Harrison Ford as the innovative Dodger's general manager Branch Rickey, the MLB executive who first signed Robinson to the minors and then helped to bring him up to the show, and Chadwick Boseman as Robinson, the heroic African American who was the first man to break the color line in the big leagues.
The trailer for the movie '42' was released earlier today.

Based on a true story.

I'm not that sure Jackie would have shown up a pitcher after hitting a home run, but who knows, I wasn't there.

Product Review: 2012 Topps Platinum Football

I want to thanks Topps for allowing LA Inspiration to review Platinum Football.

What I liked about the product?
Just like their baseball product, Topps uses a nice mixture of players from rookies to veterans. Each pack contains at least one rookie card. Each of the rookie autographs are On-Card, which is always a plus. I like the Veteran Base Ruby Parallel that are thicker than the regular base.

What I didn't like about the product?
The sticker autos on the patch relics need to go. I know it's easier to produce the product without having to put any redemptions. There's too many rookies in the product, cutting down the number of rookies from 50 to 35 would make the product a little better. There are some players that not every collector know about.

NHL Cancels Preseason Games Scheduled Through September 30

I bet those who planned a trip to Vegas around the Kings/Avalanche game at MGM Grand must be mad.

From the LA Kings:

NEW YORK – The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012 preseason schedule through Sept. 30. In addition, the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville preseason game, scheduled for Oct. 3 in Belleville, Ontario, has been postponed to 2013.

The cancellation of the schedule was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.

While the Kraft Hockeyville game has been postponed, many of the scheduled celebrations in the winning community of Stirling-Rawdon, Ontario, will proceed as planned beginning on Sept. 30.

Cancelled LA Kings preseason games -

Mon., Sept. 24, Coyotes, Phoenix, Jobing.com Arena, 7:30 p.m.

Mon., Sept. 24, Coyotes, Los Angeles, STAPLES Center, 7:30 p.m.

Wed., Sept. 26, Avalanche, Denver, Pepsi Center, 6 p.m.

Sat., Sept. 29, Avalanche, Las Vegas, MGM Grand, 7 p.m.

Steve Nash Interview on The Tonight Show

Last night, Steve Nash made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I wonder if Timberlake will still root for the Lakers even though he's now part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Check out the interview with the newest Laker point guard. (It was a crappy interview since Leno is just terrible at asking questions.)

Clippers Sign Matt Barnes

It's official. Matt Barnes is a Clipper.

From ESPN LA:
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers signed free-agent forward Matt Barnes, the team announced Friday.
Sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne that Barnes received a one-year deal at the veteran minimum of approximately $1.2 million.
Barnes, 32, averaged 7.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 63 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, his second with the team. But he never was fully healthy with the Lakers. Barnes had knee surgery during the middle of the 2011 season, then suffered an ankle injury midway through the 2012 season and a freak neck injury later that affected his performance.
I don't blame Barnes for not wanting to leave Los Angeles. The Lakers didn't want him and the Clippers have a good team. I don't know how much playing time he'll get with Caron Butler, and Grant Hill ahead of him on the depth chart.

2013 MLB Schedule Released (Dodgers & Angels)

Why MLB decided to announce the 2013 schedule at the same time Apple was announcing the iphone5 is weird but as a baseball fan, I couldn't be happier. It's great to see which interleague games our favorite team play against. Which dates to request off of work because you want to plan a vacation during that time. There are many reasons to get excited for a new schedule.

My First Printing Plate

I've always wanted a printing plate for my collection. Printing plates transfer images to the paper on a printing press. It's how trading card companies like Topps, Panini, and Upper Deck make their cards. Then they include some into their products.

Printing plates always seem to be way out of my price range since they are all numbered out of 1. But a couple months ago, I randomly searched for "Printing Plates" on eBay just to see if I could find one cheap.

There it was. A Dodger printing plate for under $10.

O-Dawg.

The card comes from the 2009 Topp T-206 set and it's a magenta printing plate.

Even though Orlando Hudson only played one season with the Dodgers, he quickly became a fan favorite in 2009. His very first game at Dodger Stadium (Opening Day), Hudson hit for the cycle. The Dodgers couldn't really find a good hitting 2B since Jeff Kent retired but I have no idea why the Dodgers didn't offer Hudson a contract the following season.

My first of many plates hopefully.

Product Review: 2012 Allen & Ginter

I want to thanks Topps for allowing LA Inspiration to review Allen and Ginter.

What I liked about the product?
The autograph checklist is outstanding. With the possibility of pulling some big name baseball players (Yu Darvish, Mike Trout), other sports athletes (Arnold Palmer), or a swimsuit model (Kate Upton). Every card like looks like hand-drawn which is appealing to me. These cards stand out every single year and are great for autograph seekers who like getting in-person autographs. No duplicates in the same box is always a plus.

What I didn't like about the product?
I'm probably one of the few that doesn't really care for some of the inserts in this set. I was never into History when I was in college, but it's refreshing to get a look at some historic buildings or events. The set is always close to impossible to complete and I love following some collectors in their journey at doing so. I'm not really a big fan of the Ginter Code. Only one person will go home with the autograph set.

UCLA upset #16 Nebraska

UCLA upset #16 Nebraska tonight in Pasadena.

UCLA 36-30!

The defense played outstanding in the second half and Brett Hundley was sharp until he hurt his ankle. He walked off the field limping, but hopefully he'll be okay for the next game.

Jonathan Franklin and Joseph Fauria will be two players to watch each week.

I didn't like the Jim Mora signing, but he's making me a believer.

Are the Bruins for real? We'll have to just wait and see.

Product Review: 2012 Bowman Platinum

I want to thanks Topps for allowing LA Inspiration to review Bowman Platinum.

What I liked about the product?
A nice mixture of players including some of the top prospects in the game. The card designs are sharp and stand out when you first look at them. There are plenty of different parallels and inserts to collect. They do have on-card autographs in this product.

What I didn't like about the product?
It's tough to tell which cards are refractors and they use sticker autos for their patch autograph cards. Some of the prospect parallels are numbered but the veteran and rookie cards aren't numbered. They should all be numbered if they are going to do it.

'Caught Looking' to Feature Dodgers Giants Series Next Thursday

The NBC Sports Network (formerly known as Versus) launched a couple of months ago and they recently started a new show called Caught Looking.
Caught Looking, a new collaboration between Major League Baseball Productions and NBC Sports Group will follow two different teams each week, as the final eight weeks of the season unfolds. Each original episode will be one hour in length and will air on NBC Sports Network.
On November 8, NBC Sports Network will air a special postseason episode of Caught Looking which will feature the two teams playing in the 2012 World Series. - (From MLB)
I began watching about 3 weeks ago when they showed the LA Angels and Tampa Bay Rays. It's a lot like the NFL show "Hardknocks" and the MLB show "The Franchise" on HBO. It's really fascinating because it gives fans a behind the scenes look at some of the players. They put a mic on certain players during the games so you can hear what they chat about.

This weekend's series between NL West Rivals, LA Dodgers and SF Giants, will be featured on the September 13th episode. Get those DVRs ready, especially if you're going to Fleece Blanket night at Dodger Stadium.

Caught Looking is on the NBC Sports Network every Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.

Remember Reeves Nelson from UCLA? The same Reeves Nelson that was dismissed from the basketball team and we found out later why he was kicked off the team. Looks like he'll have an opportunity of a lifetime. He'll be invited to Lakers training camp and has a shot at making the team.
