Preview: Vin Scully Bobblehead

It looks amazing! Can't wait to add this one to the collection. I might have to pick up an extra or two.

Just got this e-mail from the Dodgers:

Dodger fans! Here is your first look at the 2012 Vin Scully Bobblehead, presented by Farmer John. Featuring Hall of Fame broadcaster Scully, this bobblehead will be given out to fans with the first 50,000 valid tickets on Thursday, August 30.

The only way to guarantee tickets to this game, and the Sandy Koufax Bobblehead game on August 7, is with a season ticket plan or the 10-game Flex Plan. Individual tickets will not be made available to the general public. The Flex Plan allows you to pick the games you want to attend during the remaining Dodgers home schedule, with tickets starting at just $11.

UCLA Baseball Earn No.1 Seed In NCAA Tournament

It's been exciting this time of year for the UCLA Bruins the past couple of years. This is the third straight season that UCLA will be hosting an NCAA Regional. These games are great to watch because UCLA has been in the World Series talk for the past two seasons. They don't have Gerrit Cole or Trevor Bauer anymore, but they still managed to have a great season by finishing No. 2 overall.

Hopefully this is the year, that UCLA Baseball can add their first National Championship. Go out to Jackie Robinson and catch a game. It's a great environment and you could watch some future major leaguers.

From UCLA:
LOS ANGELES - UCLA has earned the No. 2 national seed in the 64-team NCAA Baseball Touranment and will host an NCAA Regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium for the third consecutive season, beginning on Friday, June 1.

Seeded No. 1 in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, UCLA (42-14) will face No. 4-seed Creighton (26-28) on Friday. No. 2-seed San Diego (40-15) will face No. 3-seed New Mexico (36-22) in the other regional contest that day. Each of 16 NCAA Regionals features a four-team, double-elimination format.

The Bruins have captured one of the tournament's eight national seeds for the second time in school history. UCLA was awarded the No. 6 national seed in 2010.

Game times will be released Monday, as determined by the NCAA.

Many of you may also enjoy playing sports as well. Your love of sports does not necessarily have to be limited to being a fan or a leisurely hobby, though. There are many ways in you can combine your passion for sports with an economically viable job. Here are some great careers for people who love sports:

Los Angeles Kings Are Going to the Stanley Cup Finals

What an exciting Game 5 between the Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes. Both teams came to play and quickly put up 3 goals each before the 3rd period. Jonathan Quick was amazing as usual and the Kings pulled out the overtime victory with a goal scored by Dustin Penner. The Kings won the game 4-3 and won the series 4-1. The Kings went a perfect 8-0 on the road during the playoffs. Pretty good for an 8 seed.

The Los Angeles Kings are going back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1993. They will face either the New York Rangers or New Jersey Devils.

Top Things Los Angeles Sports Fans Have to Be Excited About

Los Angeles sports fans always have a reason to be excited. Granted, sometimes the excitement more along the lines of uncomfortable or humorous drama, but it is excitement nonetheless. So, while you are busy in your day-to-day life, such as attending an online university, review the following, which are just a few reasons for L.A. sports fans to be excited and it’s all the good kind of excitement here:
  • Matt Kemp Kemp's hamstring is worrisome. In fact, it is always worrisome. However, Kemp's incredible start to the 2012 season was, and is, a great reason to be excited. Watching the Dodgers' franchise player put all of his considerable skills together consistently for a month resulted in a .400-plus batting average as well as league-leading home run totals. Hitting for ridiculous average and power is exciting. Enjoy him for the rest of his eight-year, $160 million contract, which ends in 2019.
  • Kobe Bryant – In the last 15 years, is there anyone else in the NBA that can even touch Kobe's career records, accolades, or accomplishments? There are more than just L.A. fans who would have no problem answering "No!" Jerry West, the guy silhouetted in the NBA logo, says that Bryant is the best Laker ever. This is no small statement, as the list of former elite Laker stars includes Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and himself. There are a lot of great NBA players today; however, none of them could approach the legacy that L.A. Laker Kobe Bryant has established.
  • Albert Pujols – Even though it has not been a stellar start for Pujols, his contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is something to be excited about. An absolute monster-deal, Pujols' agent negotiated a 10-year, $254 million deal. Included in the deal is a luxury hotel suite on road trips, as well as a 10-year personal services agreement after Pujols either retires or his contract ends. The personal services agreement will pay out $1 million each year. Now 32 years of age, it’s not likely that Pujols' playing days are going to extend into his mid-40s; nonetheless, L.A. sports fans should be excited that their sports teams are willing to shell out tens of millions for a better shot at a Series win. The contract is not only notable in its length or sum, it is also notable in that the "personal services agreement" avoided may MLB taxes associated with such a contract. Even Angels fans have to be a little leery of this deal. At least they are not Mets fans who are still talking about Bobby Bonilla's infamous deal. The Mets will be paying Bonilla $1.2 million dollars per year for the next 25 years.
  • L.A. Kings – The Kings are currently making a run for the Stanley Cup, and the eighth-seeded Kings are doing it in style. With a dynamic third line and an absolutely relentless forecheck, the unlikely contenders have won 11 out of 12 games in this year's NHL playoffs and are the most exciting team to watch right now. Since the team's inaugural season in 1966, the King's have never won the league's championship and the last time the made the Stanley Cup Finals was in the 1992-1993 season. If the team continues this streak, perhaps 2012 will be the year they hoist the Cup.

Clayton Kershaw Named NL Player of the Week

This is the second time Clayton Kershaw has been named the NL Player of the Week Award in his career.

From MLB:

LOS ANGELES – Dodger pitcher Clayton Kershaw has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending May 20. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Kershaw was a perfect 2-0 in two starts last week, leading the Majors with 16.0 innings pitched and tied for the lowest earned run average (0.00) among qualifying starters. Over his two outings, the 2011 NL Cy Young Award winner added 10 strikeouts with three walks and 10 hits while not allowing a home run.

On Monday, May 14, the Dallas, Texas native tossed 7.0 shutout innings, striking out six and allowing just four hits in the Dodgers’ 3-1 win over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.

On Saturday night, Kershaw outdueled St. Louis Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook in a 6-0 shutout at Dodger Stadium. The seventh overall selection in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft doubled and scored a run in the Dodgers’ four-run seventh inning, which broke a 0-0 tie. The opposite-field two-bagger was the first extra-base hit of Kershaw’s career after collecting 28 singles in five Major League seasons. The 24-year-old needed 116 pitches to dispatch the defending World Champions, striking out four and not allowing a walk en route to his first complete-game shutout of the 2012 campaign.

The shutout extended Kershaw’s scoreless innings streak to 22.0, dating back to his May 8 start vs. San Francisco. With his two victories during the week, Kershaw improved his record to 4-1 on the season. The left-hander currently ranks second in the National League with 61.2 innings pitched, and is third among qualifying pitchers with a 1.90 ERA and 0.88 WHIP. This is his second career weekly award, having won previously for the period of June 20-26, 2011.

In recognition of his National League Player of the Week Award, Clayton Kershaw will be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.

Pau Gasol Wins 2011-12 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award

Gasol became the fourth Laker to win the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award (Michael Cooper 85-86; Magic Johnson 91-92; Metta World Peace 10-11). It's given to a player, coach or trainer with outstanding service to community.

From the Lakers:

NEW YORK - Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers has been voted the 2011-12 winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, named after the second commissioner of the NBA and presented annually by the Professional Basketball Writers Association and given annually to the player, coach or trainer who shows outstanding service and dedication to the community.

Gasol has been a tireless worker worldwide on behalf of various UNICEF causes. He has been a UNICEF Ambassador for seven years and traveled the globe working with programs aimed at nutrition and education for children.

“Pau’s work epitomizes all that is good about NBA players and their charitable works not only in their own communities but around the world,” said Doug Smith of the Toronto Star and the president of the Professional Basketball Writers Association. “Working to help children realize their potential and to provide them with opportunities they might not otherwise get truly characterizes outstanding service and dedication.”

The PBWA comprises approximately 150 writers for newspapers, Internet services and magazines, who cover the NBA on a regular basis. Its members nominate finalists for the award; the other finalists this year were Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks, Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks, and J.J. Redick of the Orlando Magic.

Round 2 Matchup: (1) San Antonio Spurs vs. (5) Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers upset the Memphis Grizzlies in an exciting 7 game series. The Clippers completed one of the greatest comebacks in NBA playoff history in game 1 against the Grizzlies. Towards the end of the series, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin had some injury problems. The San Antonio Spurs have been resting for over a week.

I would like to see a Clippers vs. Lakers Western Conference Finals, but I don't believe either Los Angeles team will make it past the Conference semi-finals.

Round 2 Matchup: (2) Oklahoma City Thunder vs. (3) Los Angeles Lakers

After a shocking 7 game series with the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers finally closed out the series. They will now face the #2 seed, Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the Western Conference. Let's see if anything happens with Metta World Peace and the Thunder since he's served his 7 game suspension already.

I'm not expecting the Lakers to make it out of the second round against the Thunder, so I won't be disappointed if they lose. The Thunder have the better team, I just don't want to see the Lakers quit like they did last season against the Dallas Mavericks. Hopefully they use their momentum from the Nuggets series for a deep run at another championship.

Game 1 – Mon May 14

May 13th - LA Kings @ Phoenix Coyotes
5pm (Pacific)

Game 2
May 15th - LA Kings @ Phoenix Coyotes
6pm (Pacific)

Game 3
May 17th - Phoenix Coyotes @ LA Kings
6pm (Pacific)

Game 4
May 20th - Phoenix Coyotes @ LA Kings
12pm (Pacific)

*Game 5
May 22nd - LA Kings @ Phoenix Coyotes
6pm (Pacific)

*Game 6
May 24th - Phoenix Coyotes @ LA Kings
6pm (Pacific)

*Game 7
May 26th - LA Kings @ Phoenix Coyotes
5pm (Pacific)

*If neccessary

This is a battle between pacific division rivals. The Phoenix Coyotes finished 2 points ahead of the LA Kings for the 3rd seed in the playoffs. None of that matters now with the Kings eliminating the #1 & #2 seed in the Western Conference. The Kings are the hottest team in the playoffs but some say the Coyotes can be the team to stop them.

Season Series Tied 3-3:
(Oct. 22nd) LA Kings 2-0 Phoenix Coyotes
(Oct. 29th) LA Kings 2-3 Phoenix Coyotes OT
(Dec. 26th) Phoenix Coyotes 3-4 LA Kings
(Jan. 5th) Phoenix Coyotes 0-1 LA Kings OT
(Feb. 16th) Phoenix Coyotes 1-0 LA Kings
(Feb. 21st) LA Kings 4-5 Phoenix Coyotes SO

Winner of this series will represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup, something the Los Angeles Kings fans have been waiting for since 1993.

Jerry & Rubby Autograph Plus COMC Additions

The other day while I was searching on eBay for some cards to add to my collection, I came across a Jerry Sands & Rubby De La Rosa Autograph. Not only was the card a refractor but it was numbered to 99.

I looked up other auctions of the same card to see what the average prices were to see what kind of bid I should put in for this card. I could only find the card that was numbered to 225 and those were selling anywhere from $7 to $11 delivered. I finally saw one that was numbered to 99 like mine; It sold for $19 delivered.

To my surprise, I won the card for only $6. A huge steal and I'm glad I could add it to my collection for a cheap price. I'm guessing since neither Sands nor De La Rosa are on the major league roster right now, there cards aren't selling for much which is good for me.

I had $20 in my COMC account and decided to buy a couple more Dodger cards I needed. I love the 'Make an Offer' button on COMC.

Here's what I bought: (Click on the picture to enlarge)

2004 Diamond Kings DK Materials Bronze #86 Adrian Beltre Bat-Jsy #/100
2008 Upper Deck Heroes Jersey Emerald #94 Chad Billingsley #5/25
2007 Artifacts Awesome Artifacts #JK Jeff Kent #27/50
2010 Topps National Chicle Relics National Chicle Back #MR Manny Ramirez #44/199
2007 Sweet Spot Classic Classic Memorabilia #MW Maury Wills Pants
2009 Upper Deck Signature Stars Impressions Signatures #CB Chad Billingsley
2011 Bowman Sterling Prospect Autographs #ZL Zach Lee
2011 Bowman Sterling Rookie Autographs #3 Jerry Sands
2011 Bowman Sterling Rookie Autographs #12 Nathan Eovaldi
2011 Bowman Sterling Rookie Autographs #16 Rubby De La Rosa

Not bad for only $20, each card comes out to about $2. My favorite card in the lot from COMC has to be the Zach Lee Autograph. I need to start buying more before he gets called up to the majors. (Maybe next season?)

Thanks for looking and if you have any Dodgers Autographs or Jersey cards available let me know.
