Metta World Peace is suspended for 6 games. He's eligible to return in game 7 if they make it that far. If the Lakers advance to the next round, he'll be eligible to return in that series. Kobe Bryant sat out the final game of the season and missed a couple of games in April. He should be well rested for the series.

Madden 13 Cover - Calvin Johnson

Last month, SportsNation began a 64 player bracket. Two players from each team were included in the bracket for the Madden 13 cover.

The finals came down to (Panthers QB) Cam Newton vs. (Lions WR) Calvin Johnson. The winner was announced today on SportsNation. Calvin is the second wide receiver to be on the cover. (Larry Fitzgerald)

I wonder how the curse will affect Megatron and the Lions.

Metta World Peace Suspended 7 Games

I'm sure everyone has seen the footage of Metta World Peace elbowing James Harden. I don't believe it was accidental and Metta knew what he was doing. He deserves the 7 game suspension.

Here's a tweet from Daniel Artest (Metta's brother):
Damn. Ron got 7 games. Y'all happy now!!
Lakers beat writer, Kevin Ding also confirms the length of the suspension.

I was expecting about a 10 game suspension, but it almost guarantees that Metta will miss the entire first round of the playoffs unless the Lakers have to play a game 7. If they end the series earlier, he could possibly miss some games in the western conference semifinals or even next season if they are eliminated.

Tony Parker Commits to UCLA; Top Recruiting Class

The upcoming season looks like it could be a great one. I'm very excited to see what this team can do on the court. I plan on attending the season opener at the new Pauley Pavilion.

Four top 50 prospects have committed to UCLA. I'm expecting a run into the Sweet 16 for these Bruins especially with the talent they have returning from last year's team.

From ESPN's Peter Yoon:
Tony Parker, the seventh-rated center and 26th-ranked player in the ESPN 100, is the latest prep star to commit to play at UCLA.
Parker, 6-9, 270 pounds from Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove, announced that he's headed to UCLA during a special ceremony at his high school Monday.
He is the No. 1 player in Georgia and chose the Bruins over Georgia, Duke, Kansas and Ohio State.
The addition of Parker to a class that already include Shabazz Muhammad (No. 2), Kyle Anderson (No. 5) and Jordan Adams (No. 41) vaults UCLA past Arizona and Kentucky for he the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.
Parker, who averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds last season and has led his Miller Grove high school team to four consecutive Georgia state titles, was the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Mr. Basketball and was a McDonald's All-American.
UCLA assistant coach Korey McCray, hired last summer by head coach Ben Howland to help recruit out of state, was Parker's AAU coach with the Atlanta Celtics before taking the UCLA job. McCray played a vital role in recruiting Parker and Adams, another former Atlanta Celtics player. Parker is also close with Muhammad and Anderson, who said they had been working hard on getting Parker to UCLA.

UFC 145 - Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans

UFC 145 has a lot of great young talent fighting on the main card. I have a couple of fighters that I love watching and there is one fight that I've been waiting months to see.

Saturday, April 21
7pm (Pacific)

Live on PPV

Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans
Light Heavyweight Championship

They use to train in the same camp and Evans considered them friends, but Jones said that was never the case. They just trained at the same camp and his goal was to win the championship. Evans was in line for the Light Heavyweight championship against Shogun Roa, before having to pull out of the fight because of an injury. That's when Jon Jones stepped in and became the youngest UFC champion ever. He welcomed a fight against Evans which pissed off Rashad because he'd never fight a friend.

Both of these guys don't like each other anymore and Greg Jackson is going to be in Jon Jones' corner. I believe that will give Jones the edge, but it's that 11 inch reach advantage that makes me pick Jon Jones to retain the belt.

Here's the rest of the UFC 145 Card:

Rory MacDonald vs Che Mills

Brendan Schaub vs Ben Rothwell

Miguel Angel Torres vs Michael McDonald

Mark Hominick vs Eddie Yagin

Mark Bocek vs John Alessio

Prelims on FX

Travis Browne vs Chad Griggs

Matt Brown vs Stephen Thompson

John Makdessi vs Anthony Njokuani

Mac Danzig vs Efrain Escudero

Keith Wisniewski vs Chris Clements

Marcus Brimage vs Maximo Blanco

No. 2 Recruit Shabazz Muhammad Commits To UCLA

The No. 2 recruit in the nation, Shabazz Muhammad (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman), announced that he will be signing with UCLA. I'm a little shocked that Howland was able to recruit such great players. To have the No. 2 recruiting class so far is amazing especially after the horrible season the Bruins had in 2011-12.

I can't wait for the new Pauley Pavilion to be finished. This upcoming season should be a great one for UCLA fans. If they fail to make the Sweet 16, I can see this as Ben Howland's final season as Bruins head coach.

From ESPN LA:
The addition of the 6-foot-6 Muhammad rockets coach Ben Howland's recruiting class to No. 2 in the class rankings, one slot behind Pac-12 rival Arizona. The Bruins' haul in the early period was constructed around do-it-all small forward Kyle Anderson (Fairview, N.J./St. Anthony's) and scoring maven Jordan Adams (Lawrenceville, Ga./Oak Hill), ranked Nos. 5 and 41, respectively.

"I think he's going to have a tremendous impact," Howland said in a conference call late Wednesday after receiving Muhammad's signed letter of intent. "He's a special, special talent and has so many attributes that will help our team. He's physically strong enough right now to be an impact player right away. He's a great shooter, scorer, very good foul shooter and rebounder. And he's a winner."
Howland then referenced Muhammad's three Nevada state championships and said he is the third national player of the year he has had with the Bruins, joining Kevin Love and Jrue Holiday.
"You look at the impact that those players had and they were huge," Howland said. "Shabazz will undoubtedly have a very impactful season as a freshman."
UCLA had been the perceived leader for Muhammad since last year, but recruiting trips to Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and the burgeoning presence of Muhammad's hometown UNLV program had cast doubt on his final decision. The Bruins were in desperate need of a significant recruiting haul coming off a difficult 19-14 season, which ended with a loss to Arizona in the second round of the Pac-12 tournament.

Matt Kemp Interview on Conan

Last night, Matt Kemp made an appearance on Conan.

They talked about the current season, Magic Johnson being about of the new ownership group, Kemp's off-season workout and more.

When Conan asked Matt about his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna, I thought he handled the question in a professional manner. Many of the Dodger fans (Girls), I follow on twitter, were angry at Conan for bringing her up.

If you missed the interview, here are a couple of videos posted on Conan's website:

Matt Kemp Named NL Player of the Week

From the Dodgers:
Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp has been named National League Player of the Week for the period of April 4-8, 2012. The announcement was made yesterday on MLB Network.
In four games last week, Kemp batted .412 (7-for-17) while leading the Majors with six runs scored and tying for the Major League lead with eight RBI and 14 total bases. His two home runs and seven hits were both tied for third among National Leaguers, while his .824 slugging percentage ranked seventh. The Oklahoma native became the first Dodger to have three consecutive multi-hit games to begin a season since Adrian Beltre in 2000. Kemp collected hits in each of the first four games, extending his hitting streak to 16 games dating back to last season.
His bat helped the Dodgers to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1999. The 27-year-old led the Dodgers out of the gate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and a towering two-run homer en route to a 5-3 victory at San Diego’s PETCO Park on Opening Day. On April 6th, 2011 N.L. All-Star went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Dodgers took the second game of their four-game set at San Diego, 6-0. Kemp notched his third consecutive multi-hit effort on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Dodgers topped San Diego, 6-5, in 11 innings. Kemp, a sixth round selection in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, clubbed his second home run of the season in Sunday’s 8-4 loss to the Friars.

1st Round Matchup: (1) Vancouver Canucks vs. (8) Los Angeles Kings

The first place (Presidents Trophy winning) Vancouver Canucks (51-22-9) will be battling the eighth place LA Kings (40-27-15) in the first round of the 2012 NHL Playoffs.

On Thursday, the Kings were sitting in 3rd place and the division lead. That was until the San Jose Sharks swept the Kings in the final two games of the season. The Phoenix Coyotes and San Jose Sharks jumped the Kings in the standings and put them as the 8 seed in the Western Conference.

Vancouver locked up the first seed and Presidents Trophy on the final day of the season by defeating Edmonton 3-0. The pressure was on when the St. Louis Blues defeated the Dallas Stars earlier in the day.

Both teams are evenly matched despite the 16 point difference in the standings. Each team won 2 games against each other during the regular season.

My Appearance on the GerBear Podcast

A couple of weeks ago, I recorded a podcast episode with a buddy of mine named Gerald. I've been listening to sports podcasts for a couple of years and always wanted to be a part of one.

When I saw that Gerald started his own podcast, I had to be one of his guest to experience it for myself. I asked if I could be a guest on the show and he was more than happy to have me on. We recorded this episode a couple of weeks ago but it was released yesterday. It's really weird listening to your own voice on the internet, but it was an awesome experience.

We talk about some of our hobbies and sports, since that's what I enjoy talking about. There are a couple of personal stuff we talk about since we attended high school together but most of the podcast deals with sports. I hope to do another one in the future.

If you have some free time please have a listen and subscribe to the GerBear podcast. Enjoy!

If you can't see the PodOmatic player above, click here to listen to the podcast. Thanks to Gerald for the opportunity.
