Flag Football Game at Rowley Park

On Saturday night, Brandon Jennings hosted a flag football game at Rowley Park in Gardena. There was a crowd of about 50 people. Michael Strahan arrived in his Ferrari to show support. If you're a clipper fan, then you would of been happy to see Clipper Darrell.

On the day of the event, Matt Barnes announced that he was going to be participating in the football game as a part of DeRozan's team. Corey Maggette was also announced by DeRozan, so I went prepared with a couple of photos.

Demar DeRozan
Brandon Jennings played against Demar DeRozan's team. The first team to score 70 points won the game. It was a back-and-forth scoring affair. Brandon Jennings and Matt Barnes each made some spectacular plays on defense.

The final score of the game was 70-63. Brandon Jennings' team pulled out the victory in the end. Everyone took the game seriously and fought hard until the end. If they aren't going to be allowed to play in the NBA, I wouldn't be against a flag football league.

AIS are now 5-0 and looking for more competition. Matt Barnes wants a re-match.

Brandon Jennings celebrating
After the game, I had the opportunity to meet all of the players. They were all very nice, took pictures and signed autographs for those who asked.

I want to thank Brandon Jennings, Demar DeRozan, Matt Barnes and Corey Maggette for the autographs. It was great seeing Alex and Harry at the game. If there is another game set up, I'll let everyone know.

MLS Western Conference Semifinals: LA Galaxy vs. New York Red Bulls

CARSON, Calif.  – The LA Galaxy will face the New York Red Bulls in their Western Conference Semifinal Series following the Red Bulls’ 2-0 win over FC Dallas in their Wild Card Match earlier this week at Pizza Hut Park. The series will open at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, October 30, with the return leg to be played at The Home Depot Center on Thursday, November 3.

Both legs of the series between the Galaxy and Red Bulls will be shown on the ESPN family of networks. Sunday’s game at Red Bull Arena will kick off at 12 p.m. (PT) and be shown live on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.com. The return leg at The Home Depot Center, which is presented by Pechanga Resort and Casino will kick off at 8 p.m. (PT) and be shown live on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.com.

The Galaxy had an 0-1-1 record against the Red Bulls this season, playing them to a 1-1 draw at The Home Depot Center on May 7 before losing 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on October 4 in a game that saw the Galaxy play without Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, Mike Magee, Josh Saunders and a number of other first team players.

In the current playoff format, which began in 2003, the Galaxy are 3-1-1 in the first leg of the Conference Semifinals and 3-1-1 in the return leg. Overall, the Galaxy are 20-3-1 all-time at home in the postseason compared to 8-10-4 on the road. This will be the two sides’ first postseason meeting since the 2001 MLS Quarterfinals when the Galaxy knocked out the MetroStars in a three-game series en route to reaching MLS Cup.

Tickets for Game Two of the Western Conference Semifinal Series at The Home Depot Center, presented by Pechanga Resort and Casino are on sale now starting at just $30. Fans can also purchase tickets for the Western Conference Championship, which the Galaxy would host at The Home Depot Center on Sunday, November 6 if they advance past the Red Bulls, and MLS Cup 2011 by visiting www.lagalaxy.com/playoffs or by calling 1-877-3GALAXY (342-5299).

Capacity at The Home Depot Center will be limited to 15,000 for the Galaxy’s Thursday’s game against the Red Bulls because of a long standing, mutual agreement with The Home Depot Center and California State University, Dominguez Hills regarding reduced stadium capacity for midweek games during the school year. If the Galaxy are to advance to the Western Conference Championship, the stadium capacity would return to the full 27,000.

'Lakers Team Up' Coming In November

EL SEGUNDO – The Los Angeles Lakers have announced the launch of “Lakers Team Up”, the organization’s employee service campaign, and part of the team’s continuing drive to be champions on the court and in the community.

Starting in November, all Lakers employees including head coach Mike Brown and his staff, General Manager Mitch Kupchak and the Laker Girls will be teaming up with national and community organizations such as Volunteers of America, the LA Food Bank, Heal the Bay, US Vets and UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and will participate in various events and activities throughout Los Angeles. Some of the scheduled events include: assembling and distributing care packages for the homeless, preparing and serving food to senior citizens and cleaning up local beaches. Lakers Team Up events will touch everything from homelessness to education to environmental clean-up.

“We’ve always received such great support from the Los Angeles community,” said Lakers Senior Vice President of Business Operations/CMO Tim Harris. “With the “Team Up” initiative we have the opportunity to give something back to the community by helping out various organizations that service many of our loyal fans.”

The events will take place on days in which the Lakers were scheduled to play home games at STAPLES Center, as well as additional dates throughout the year.

Matt Kemp & Clayton Kershaw Named to Sporting News All-Star Team

Sporting News’ AL and NL All-Star Teams Announced

October 27 – Voted on by 55 members of major league front offices, twenty-six AL executives and 29 NL executives, Sporting News has released its 2011 AL and NL All-Star teams, presented by Gillette Odor Shield.

Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander, chosen as the team's starting pitcher, was the only unanimous selection in the AL. He was joined by teammate Alex Avila at catcher. The New York Yankees had three starters on the team: center fielder Curtis Granderson, second baseman Robinson Cano and reliever Mariano Rivera.

Granderson received 25 votes, as did fellow outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury of the Boston Red Sox and Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays. Rounding out the AL lineup are Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and Cleveland Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.

In the NL, Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp was the only unanimous selection. Teammate Clayton Kershaw joined him on the roster as the starting pitcher. Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun received 28 votes, and teammate Prince Fielder was selected as the NL's starting first baseman. A pair of Atlanta Braves also made the lineup: catcher Brian McCann and rookie reliever Craig Kimbrel.

Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton joined Kemp and Braun in the outfield, while Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez and Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki rounded out the infield.

Georges St-Pierre Signing Recap

Georges St-Pierre was signing free autographs for his fans at the Affliction store in Seal Beach today. He was scheduled to sign from 12 til 2 pm. He was signing anything put in front of him and pictures were allowed.

I arrived at around 11:30 and the line was deep for a Wednesday afternoon. I would of arrived earlier if I didn't have class in the morning. There had to be at least 125 people by the time I got in line. The Affliction employees let fans sign up for a chance to win one of three GSP signed Affliction t-shirts. (Hopefully I win one)

St-Pierre arrived 30 minutes early but didn't start signing until noon. Affliction had a promotion for people who made a purchase over $100. They were able to get in another line that guaranteed an opportunity to meet GSP. The line was moving really slowly because St-Pierre was signing multiple items and chatting with everyone.

A little after 1 pm, an Affliction employee announced that St-Pierre went on a lunch break. He didn't return until 1:45 and I was getting worried because he was only suppose to be there until 2. They said that he would stop signing at 2:30 and the people who weren't able to get St-Pierre's autograph would receive 35% off anything in the store.

Luckily, I was one of the last ones allowed into the store. They cut off the line about ten people after I was let in. There was about 30-40 people outside when I left. Since St-Pierre was in a hurry, I was only able to get one of my pictures signed. I'm just happy I was able to meet the champ. A little sloppy on the autograph but he's a very nice guy.

Affliction needs to organize their lines. There was a couple people cutting and saying they were going to the restroom, but would just get in line once they were inside the store.

For anything sold today, 20% of all proceeds went to the Seal Beach Victim Fund Trust.

They will be hosting another signing on November 12th with multiple UFC fighters. I'll post up the information when they release the names.

Thanks to Affliction for hosting the event and Georges for being great!

Dodgers Lower 2012 Season Ticket Prices & Add Benefits

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers are lowering pricing and adding new benefits for season ticket holders in the Field, Loge, Club, Reserve, Left Field Pavilion, Right Field Pavilion and Top Deck sections of the stadium for the 2012 season.

Dodger season tickets remain one of the best values in Los Angeles and all of sports. Lower pricing and related benefits will be available for 96% of the seats in Dodger Stadium. More than 35,000 seats will be available for $20 or less on a season ticket basis.

The Dodgers currently offer one of the lowest entry points in all of Major League Baseball for season ticket holders at $5 per seat. The $5 Top Deck option reflects pricing that was in place two decades ago. The $16 Preferred Field Box offering is the lowest in 10 years, the $10 Preferred Loge Box plan is the lowest in 16 years and the $6 Reserve option is the lowest in 24 years.

Several exciting new benefits will be offered in 2012 adding exceptional value to being a Dodger season ticket holder including the opportunity to enter the stadium one hour before the general public to watch Dodger batting practice. Season ticket holders will also be able to play catch on the field with friends and family after select games.

Additional amenities include access to all levels of the ballpark, from the Top Deck to the Field level. MVP and VIP Field Level season ticket holders will also receive a complimentary Stadium Club membership to use throughout the season.

Complete details on new pricing and enhanced benefits for the 2012 season exclusive to season seat holders can be found by visiting www.dodgers.com/seasontickets.

2011 Warren Spahn Award Winner - Clayton Kershaw

Clayton Kershaw named best lefty pitcher in MLB

OKLAHOMA CITY, OCTOBER 20, 2011—Warren Spahn Award organizers announced today that Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers is the 2011 Spahn Award winner.

The Spahn Award is presented annually to the best left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball and is based on a pitcher’s wins, strikeouts and earned run average. Kershaw led in all categories with 21 wins, 248 strikeouts and a 2.28 ERA.

“It is a genuine honor to have my named mentioned alongside one of the greatest lefties in the history of the game,” Kershaw said. “Mr. Spahn accomplished so much both in baseball and in his life off the field. I am truly humbled by this award. Thank you.”

Greg Spahn, son of the late Warren Spahn, said this is the first time an award winner has placed first in every category since Randy Johnson won in the late 1990s.

“Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw on an incredible season, leading all lefties with a 2.28 ERA,” Spahn said. “In fact, he led in each category of the Warren Spahn Award, with the Dodgers a third place club in the National League West. I look forward to handing him the award.”

Sponsored by Farmers Insurance Group, the Spahn Award is named after Oklahoman and National Baseball Hall of Famer Warren Spahn, who holds the MLB record of 363 wins as a left-handed pitcher.

“Warren Spahn was most well-known for his record number of wins, so it’s appropriate that this year’s Spahn Award winner is also the Dodgers’ first 20-game winner in over two decades,” said Bill Hickman, chairman of the Warren Spahn Award board. “Congratulations to Mr. Kershaw on an outstanding season and on winning this prestigious award.”

Kershaw’s 2011 accomplishments also include being selected as the Dodgers’ Opening Day Starter, being selected to the National League squad for the MLB All-Star Game and being awarded the NL Player of the Month and NL pitching Triple Crown. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Kershaw was drafted by the Dodgers in 2006 and made his major league debut in 2008 as the youngest player in the league.

In its 13th year, the Spahn Award will be presented at the Warren Spahn Award Gala, hosted by Oklahoma City’s Bricktown Rotary Club and Jim Thorpe Association in January at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame & Jim Thorpe Museum.

Past Spahn Award winners include: David Price (2010); CC Sabathia (2007–2009); Johan Santana (2004, 2006); Dontrelle Willis (2005); Andy Pettitte (2003); and Randy Johnson (1999–2002). For more information, visit OKCSpahnAwards.com
