2011 Super Bowl Prop Bets

Super Bowl XLV Prop Bets

I was looking through all of the prop bets that gambling sites were allowing bets on. There are some weird bets that are only used for Super Bowl since it's the biggest game of the year.

I picked out some bets that were unusual.

1. Who will the winning coach of the game thank 1st?  They also had this same bet for the MVP of the game.

2. First punt of the game.

3. Cross-Sports. You can bet on the Super Bowl and other sports happening on the same day. (NBA, Golf)

4. What will Fergie be wearing 1st appearance?

5. Which way will the first missed field goal travel?

6. Color of the Gatorade that's used on the Winning Head Coach. You can also bet who performs the dumping.

7. President Obama's pick to win the game.
8. Do you believe any NFL players will be arrested during Super Bowl weekend? You can bet on that.

9. For those commercial lovers, you can bet on which commercial has the Highest Rating on USA Today's annual Ad Meter. (More choices available than pictured)

10. National Anthem. Will Christina Aguilera sing Over/Under 1:56? Also if you believe she'll be wearing a Cowboys hat, there's a bet for that.

If you are going to make any of these bets, let me know. I'm curious to see if anyone place these bets. Also if there are other unusual bets, let me know and i'll add them.

Good Luck and win some money!

Lakers Fall Short As Kobe Reaches Another Milestone

Lakers (33-14) vs. Kings (11-33)
The game started off with a scary moment. Kobe tried to draw a blocking foul on Tyreke Evans, but got there late and hit the ground. He favored his shoulder right when he hit the floor and just laid there for another 10 seconds.

Kobe just needed extra time to let the shoulder heal. He came out ready to pass up Hakeem for 8th all-time on the scoring list. He scored 9 of the first 13 points for the Lakers. With 3:30 left in the first quarter, Kobe created a turnover which lead to a fast break dunk. That dunk helped Kobe pass Hakeem Olajuwon for 8th all-time. {Link}

Kobe ended the quarter with 21 points and Kings rookie, Demarcus Cousins had 12 points of his own.

Lakers led 33-30 after the first quarter.

Sloppy second quarter for the Lakers. The bench did their best of keeping it a close game but had no luck scoring much. Cousins went on a tear and finished the quarter with 22 points. Shannon Brown had eight points and Kobe finished with 26 at the half.

No defense played by either team and the Lakers didn't come out with the same energy they had against Utah earlier this week. Lakers trailed 59-55 at half.

No defense in the third quarter. Lakers came out flat and allowed the Kings to extend their 4-point lead to 20 with 4 minutes left in the third. Lakers cut into the huge deficit before the quarter ended. Kings led 85-71 after three.

The Lakers couldn't catch a break early in the fourth. Every time they got within single digits, the Kings would respond with a basket.

With less than 5 minutes left in the game, the Lakers finally showed up. They were playing with so much energy and passing the ball around to get easy buckets in the paint. Lakers cut the lead down to 4 points, but couldn't stop the Kings at the other end.

Kings hit most of their free throws down the stretch and never let the Lakers get within one possession

Ugly loss against a young Sacramento Kings team. This snapped an 8-game winning streak for the Lakers against the Kings.

Kobe Moves Into Eighth On All-Time Scoring List

Kobe (26,934) came into tonight's game against the Sacramento Kings only 12 points behind Hakeem Olajuwon (26,946) for 8th overall on the all-time scoring list.

Earlier this month, Kobe passed Oscar Robertson for Ninth {Link}

Kobe passed 'The Dream' for sole possession of eighth all-time, just a day after being named starter of the NBA All Star Game for the 13th straight season.

Scary moment early in the first quarter, Kobe went down favoring his shoulder after trying to draw a charge against Tyreke Evans. Kobe took a couple extra seconds to recover and went on like nothing happened.

Kobe quickly scored 13 points in the first quarter to pass Hakeem for 8th. He did it on after a steal that lead to a wide-open dunk.

Lakers Continue To Dominate The Jazz At Home

Lakers (33-13) vs. Utah Jazz (27-18)
Lakers came into tonight's game with 16 straight home wins over the Utah Jazz, including the playoffs.

Lakers defense was a big problem for the Jazz. The Lakers were forcing tough shots and turnovers. Andrew Bynum had 2 blocks in the first quarter.

Lakers led 37-22 at the end of the quarter. Lakers shot 72.2% and the Jazz shot 36.4%.

The Lakers offense kept their touch in the second quarter. Everyone moved the basketball around resulting in easy buckets. Out of the 24 field goals made in the half, the Lakers had 20 assists. Their bench also outscored Utah 20-3 in the half.

Lakers led 66-38 at the half.

Both teams went back and forth in the third quarter. Raja Bell picked up a technical foul for arguing a call. The entire Jazz team was frustrated with the way the game had been going. 93-65 was the score at the end fo the third.

Lakers' bench pushed the tempo and went on a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 38. Game became a little chippy when Earl Watson and Steve Blake almost got into an altercation. In the very next possession, Derrick Caracter bumped Watson twice for the offensive foul. Watson was upset, but nothing escalated.

Joe Smith played for the first time since Jan. 11th. The third squad played sloppy down the stretch, but the Jazz never came close.

Key Numbers:
20 assists for the Lakers in first half.
19 straight games with a block for Bynum
17 straight home wins against the Utah Jazz
13 points away from tying Hakeem for 7th on all-time scoring list for Kobe
3 technical fouls (Jazz Ast. Coach; Deron Williams; Raja Bell)

Box Score: Lakers 120 Jazz 91

2011 NBA All-Star Roster Predictions

The 2011 NBA All-Star Starters will be announced live on TNT on Jan. 27, during a special one-hour pregame show at 7 P.M. ET with Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.

Well here are my predictions for the 12 spots for the Western Conference All-Stars. Since Yao Ming won't be able to play, I'm hoping they just move Gasol to start at Center.

Western Conference
PG - Chris Paul
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Carmelo Anthony
PF - Kevin Durant
C - Pau Gasol
Bench - Lamar Odom
Bench - Kevin Love
Bench - Blake Griffin
Bench - Manu Ginobli
Bench - Dirk Nowitzki
Bench - Russell Westbrook
Bench - Deron Williams

Eastern Conference
PG - Derrick Rose
SG - Dwyane Wade
SF - LeBron James
PF - Amar'e Stoudimare
C - Dwight Howard
Bench - Kevin Garnett
Bench - Rajon Rondo
Bench - Raymond Felton
Bench - Al Horford
Bench - Danny Granger
Bench - Andrew Bogut
Bench - Joe Johnson

There needs to be more roster spots added. 12 spots isn't enough since there are now 15 teams in each conference.

Super Bowl XLV: Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

The AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV (45).

On February 6, both teams will play at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX. Kick-off time is estimated to be around 6:25 p.m. EST.

National Anthem will be performed by Christina Aguilera and the Halftime show will feature a performance by the Black Eyed Peas.

The (14-4) Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 31-24, in the divisional round and the New York Jets, 24-19, in the AFC Championship round.

The (13-6) Green Bay Packers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 21-16, in the wild card round. They also defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 48-21, in the divisional round and defeated the Chicago Bears, 21-14 in the NFC Championship round.

The Packers are only the second #6 seed to ever make a Super Bowl appearance. The Steelers won the Super Bowl as a #6 seed in Super Bowl XL.

The early Vegas line for this game:
Jan. 24 Packers (-2.5)

My prediction for Super Bowl XLV:
Score - Steelers 24-20
MVP - Troy Polamalu

NFL Championship Sunday

Later today, the NFL Conference Championship games will be played in Chicago & Pittsburgh.

3:30 P.M. EST (Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears)
6:30 P.M. EST (New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers)

I'm taking the Green Bay Packers to beat the Chicago Bears 20-14 and the Pittsburgh Steelers to defeat the New York Jets 14-10.

I just see great defenses in both games. The reason the Bears are playing today is because of their defense.

Well i'll leave you guys with this from Bart Scott, i'm sure everyone including myself feels this way right now:

Artest Steps Up As Lakers Defeat Nuggets

Lakers (32-13) vs. Nuggets (24-18)
Horrible shooting by the Lakers and Nuggets to start off the game. Both teams started off 3-for-15 from the field combined.

Ron Artest got the offense going, scoring nine points in the first nine minutes. But Denver finished the quarter leading 25-22. Both teams shot under 41% in the quarter.

Lakers' bench started off the 2nd quarter with a nice 7-0 run to take a quick four-point lead. They continued to play well, which allowed Kobe to sit for the first seven minutes of the second quarter. Lakers couldn't hold onto the lead and went into the half trailing 52-49.

Gasol had nine points and nine rebounds at the half. He was around the basket tonight, something that was missing in the past couple of games.

Kobe took over the 3rd quarter. Diving on the ground for loose balls, getting his teammates involved and scoring on difficult shots. Kobe played like he was 25 years old again. Lakers finished the third quarter leading 82-72.

The Lakers big men dominated the entire game. In the 4th quarter, Nene gave Andrew Bynum an extra shove after fouling him. Bynum quickly stood up and they stared each other in the face. No techinal fouls were given out. Lakers lead by 16 points after Bynum hit both free throws.

Lakers controlled the entire 4th quarter. Artest finished the game with 19 points.

The Lakers second win on the road against teams with winning records this season.

Key Numbers:
19 points for Ron Artest
13 rebounds for Pau Gasol
5 Lakers with 17 or more points
2 double-doubles (Gasol/Odom)

Box Score: Lakers 107 Nuggets 97

Lakers Lose To Struggling Mavericks

Lakers (31-13) vs. Mavericks (27-14)
Mavericks were on a 6 game losing streak and the Lakers had just won 8 of 9 games. Both teams didn't play like they have the past 2 weeks.

Great first quarter for the Lakers. Fisher had 7 points and helped give the Lakers an 8 point lead at the end of the quarter. Tyson Chandler went out of the game in the first half due to sickness. Really hurt the Mavericks in the middle and allowed Bynum/Gasol to get a lot of easy buckets in the paint.

The Dallas Mavericks started the game 0-7 from the 3-point line, which quickly put them in a whole. But in the second quarter, they made a 10-0 run to take the lead with 2 minutes left in the half. Lakers responded with a 7-2 run to end the quarter and take a 56-52 lead into the half.

With 37.7 seconds left in the first half, Pau Gasol made a hook shot that gave him 13,000 points for his career. Pau had 17 points at half.

Tyson Chandler returned at halftime despite having the flu. Jason Kidd was on a hot streak in the 3rd quarter. The Lakers had no answer for him and he kept hitting open shots. It didn't help that the Lakers had 7 turnovers in the third quarter which allowed the Mavericks to regain the lead.

The Lakers stopped playing defense in the final 2 minutes of the third quarter. Mavericks went into the fourth quarter leading 82-73.

The Mavericks extended their lead to 16 within the first 6 minutes of the fourth quarter.  The Lakers couldn't recover from the deficit.

The Lakers lose this game because of bench play. No one except Lamar Odom produced off the bench.

Kobe finished the game with 21 points and 10 assists. Lamar added 20 of his own, with 14 of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Andrew Bynum went out in the fourth quarter after he hyper extended his right elbow.

Key Numbers:
13,000+ career points for Pau Gasol
17 straight games Andrew Bynum has recorded a block
10 assists for Kobe Bryant
7 third quarter Laker turnovers

Box Score: Lakers 100 Mavericks 109

Chad Billingsley Agrees to One-Year Deal; Avoids Arbitration

Dylan Hernandez reports: {Link}
Dodgers, Chad Billingsley avoid arbitration, agree to one-year, $6.275 million deal.
Fair deal for Billingsley. He usually has a great first half of the season and then after all-star break he stuggles, but last season he was consistent the entire season.

He's had at least 10 wins the last four seasons.

Lakers Defeat Thunder For 11th Straight Time At Home

Lakers (31-12) vs. Thunder (27-14)
The Lakers defeat the Thunder for the 11th straight time at the Staples Center, including playoffs.

Important game for both teams, since they are battling for playoff position.

Lakers took control of this game in the 2nd half, when the Lakers went on a nice 18-2 run. But the Thunder made a nice run at the end of the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 6 points.

With 3 minutes left in the game, Gasol hit a shot from the top of the key to extend the lead to 10 points. After the timeout, the Thunder responded with a 6-0 run and then went cold for the final 1:30 of the game.

Kobe hit 4 free throws to seal the game after struggling from the line by missing 3 straight free throws.

Russell Westbrook was still a problem for the guards. He scored 32 points and dished out 12 assists.

The Thunder lost this game from the 3-point line. They went 2-for-22 from beyond the arc. They are the worst shooting team from the 3-point line.

Key Numbers:
32 points for Russell Westbrook
21 points for Kobe Bryant.
16 points off the bench for Lamar Odom.
11 straight wins at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
10 points & rebounds for Bynum

Box Score: Lakers 101 Thunder 94

Dodgers To Sign Marcus Thames

Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times is reporting that the Dodgers have reached an agreement with free agent outfielder, Marcus Thames. {Link}

This gives us some power coming off the bench and he could possibly split time with Jay Gibbons/Tony Gwynn Jr. in the outfield.

Blake Griffin Scores Career High 47 Points

Blake Griffin extended his double-double streak to 27 straight games.

He scored 47 points today against the Indiana Pacers, which is the most points in the NBA by any player in the 2010-2011 season. These 47 points are also his new career high and second most points by a Clippers rookie.

Griffin also added 14 rebounds.

If you haven't seen Griffin play in person, you must do so before the season is over. He is amazing to watch and if the Clippers keep winning, they can try for that 8th seed.

Clippers Snap Lakers 7 Game Win Streak

I attended the game earlier today. Watching my favorite team play against the most exciting player in the NBA right now, Blake Griffin.

Exciting game from start to finish.

The Lakers went into the game with a 7 game win streak while the Clippers just lost to the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.

Kobe scored 27 points, with 9 rebounds and added 5 assists. But he shot 1-7 from behind the arc.

Blake Griffin had 14 straight games with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds but that was snapped when he was ejected in the 4th quarter with only 18 points. He did extend his double-double streak to 26 games. The Lakers held Griffin to only 2 points in the 1st half.

Lamar Odom and Blake Griffin got tied up at the end of the game after a free throw shot was made. Baron Davis came over and pushed Odom. This is when things escalated and the referees went to the video screen to hand out ejections/technical fouls.

Odom, Artest, Griffin and Davis were all ejected from the game. The Clipper fans started chanting "Lakers suck". The Lakers are only 14.5 games ahead of the Clippers with half of the season left.

Key Numbers:
30 points for Eric Gordon
27 points for Kobe Bryant
26 straight double-doubles for Blake Griffin
15 rebounds each for Blake Griffin & DeAndre Jordan
13 rebounds for Andrew Bynum
5 technical fouls (Bynum, Odom, Artest, Griffin, Davis)

Box Score: Lakers 92 Clippers 99

Dodgers "Pride Night" At Kings Game

There was a silent auction setup throughout the entire game. Most of the auctions were Kings items but they did have a nice Andre Ethier autograph jersey.

Billy Ashley was signing autographs for Dodgers fans. Also at the table, they had a raffle for a chance to win a Dodgers mini-plan.

Deuce with Billy Ashley {Dodgers Link}
Here's me with Mr. Ashley
I had two items signed (baseball card and 4x6 paper). Security didn't let me bring in my baseball because it was "dangerous".
Here's the ice with Purple and Blue before the game.
There was also a laser show before introducing both teams.
Don Mattingly walking to center ice to drop the puck.
On twitter, the Kings and Dodgers gave out a James Loney Autograph Ball and Anze Kopitar Autograph Puck.

The Kings lost the game 3-1.
