Southern California Sports Collectors Show Recap

I mentioned last week that there was going to be a card show in Culver City this past weekend. I was excited to attend this show since there hasn't been a show in Los Angeles in a couple of years.

I showed up to the auditorium at noon and met up with Greg from Plaschke, Thy Sweater Is Argyle. He was in the middle of making a purchase so I decided to look through some of the boxes and bought a couple of Trevor Bauer rookie cards. Afterwards, I headed over to chat with Spiegel from Nomo's Sushi Platter who set up a table at the show. I spent most of my time talking sports since more of the collectors at the show were selling vintage and I'm not into collecting vintage cards. I also met Ernest from Dodgers Blue Heaven. He always plugs my blog when there's a player appearance. It was great to finally meet him.

I decided to look around one more time before I had to head home and I found some nice low-end relics and autographs that I could use as tradebait. I made one purchase for a total of 24 cards but I had to haggle with the seller since he didn't know much about any of the players I was interested in. I will say that I got a hell of a deal and can't complain.

The only two cards that are not available are the Matt Kemp and Russell Martin Allen & Ginter Relics. Everything else is available for trade.

There might be another show in a couple of months and I'm debating if I should set up a table at the show to help clear space. Thanks for taking the time to read this recap.

Southern California Sports Collectors Show

It's been a long time since Los Angeles has had a sports card show. I remember as a little kid going to Veterans park or Hollywood Park casino to card shows. Thanks to my buddy Greg, (Plaschke, Thy Sweater Is Argyle), for the heads up a couple months ago about this show that will be at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Culver City.

Dodger Stadium to Host Kings and Ducks Game Next January

It's official: LA Kings vs. Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium in 2014!

From the NHL:

Hockey fans in southern California will have an opportunity to watch some of their favorite NHL stars next year in possible 80-plus degree temperatures from the great outdoors when the Los Angeles Kings play host to the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, 2014. (7pm start)

"With their meeting in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the Ducks and the Kings will write the next chapter in the exciting story of NHL hockey in Southern California," Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "At a venue that represents so much glorious sports history, this match-up of Stanley Cup champions will raise our outdoor initiatives to bold new heights. We know the game will be a treat for our fans, and we thank the Ducks, the Kings, Coors Light, Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles Dodgers for bringing it to life."
